Point Cache Question

Hi everybody.
I have an Object that I imported from MD as OBJ. there is also a Point cache for it and when I play the animation everything is working fine. but I want to to some readjustment on my model, therefore on top of the Point cache I applied a Edit Poly modify and attached some vertices with each other. I want to create one big element instead of 5 separate Elements. but when I play the animation after couple of frame this is not working. Any Idea how to fix this problem ?

I would assume point caches work on a similar basis to morph targets where it doesnt work once you edit the verts?

tnx for your answer. but I found a way to fix it.
instead of applying an Editable Poly modify I applied an Editable Mesh and I did the weld command in Editable Mesh. and it worked.
