Plugin Complete - X360 Mocap
show user profile  Boomer
Folks,

I wrote an motion capture plugin for the XBOX Controller. It supports upto 4 controllers and every single button, trigger and joystick on the dang thing (13 in total). It was written for a client to aid in puppetering (yes, I am permitted to make it available to others).

So my question is: Would this be useful to you? If so, how much do you think you'd be willing to pay for it? I'm thinking of either licensing to Autodesk or selling myself.

Thanks for your input.

Cheers,

This is really awesome, something i've actually wanted to be able to do for quite a while (the most I ever managed was using the mouse to contol the motion of a car, I guess it helps to know max script :P)

I'd be willing to pay from $50 - 100 for this if the need arrised (more so than just wanting to play around with it) If it was just for personaly playing around then i dont think i'd really want to spend more than $50 but it also depends on you, how hard was it to make and how much time did you put into it?

Still, it's very cool!
Cheers

Ok as I told you I might start this project in about 2 moths, lets see I will be able to control specific gestures for the facewith each button and animate it via the stick from the control... is that the way it will work or Im getting things really bad :)

How about a bit more info matt.

Can people assign each button/josytcik to a function?
EG can I assign one joystick to the eyes and a few buttons to fingers.
Does it record real time, does it create smoothed keys?
can you go back and re-record just one track, ie can I leave the buttons I recorded and just re-do the joystick?

Heya folks,

OK, it is a standard Motion Capture device for MAX, similar to the Mouse, Midi or Joystick motion capture that is built in. Here is a sample screen shot of the standard MAX JoyStick Motion Capture
device:

My version supports:
- Upto 4 Controllers at once
- All of the buttons/triggers/joysticks on the controller
- A Ramp Time for buttons so that they have transition time (rather than jumping from 0->10 for example). You can see this in the bottom right corner of the Track View in the shot below.

Here's what the UI looks like:

Does that help? Still interested? Questions?

Cheers,

Yes still interested, I´ve been talking with one of the animators, and he´s a little concerned about the robotic motion, I think it might be helpfull for blocking out main movements or you think it might be subtle enough to control facial expressions, The UI looks very promising but I might like to see a test or something. :)

I'm in. But you already knew that. I can't wait to give this a whirl.

This is relevant to my interests

Good stuff.

Anyone else interested in Beta Testing - shoot me an email. Preference will be given to those who've tested for me before.
