playing it straight

Once more I seek guidance from the un holy altar of the Max gods!

I'm trying to make the edges around the grill straight (ish) I've tried bevelling, champhering, running a line above, running a line around. they all still leave mainly round holes. I can sort the inside edge by running connects around them. but still cant make square outside edges!!!! without kinking the rest of the geometry!

I know this is probably basic but so am I!!!

also got a bit of a kink on the edge of the light. Although they look like triangles they are quads. the kink in the wing is ok, that's where the panel gap is.

Helpppp!

When possible stay away from chamfer (unless you have clean edge loops) as you often have to fix things up afterwards. Instead, connect.

The red and green lines are just to make it clearer.

Thanks herfst1

but when I do that I end up with creases along the rest of the geometry, I've tried spreading the verts out as it moves away but still leaves some pretty nasty creases!??

Understood. You might have to terminate the edge loops early then (you can merge them into triangles on any flat surface and you won't have a problem). Just try the red lines for now, they'll definitely help.

[edit] just saw your pic. Another thing you can do is to spread them out using edge constraint. The further apart they are, the less of a crease. But I'd definitely try to end them early or make them loop back on themselves.

Thanks

I'll give it another go tomorrow.

I've been playing with moving them with edge constraint and it's helping. Do you think I should of started with the grills and worked up to the bumper not the other way around??

sort of think it looks odd with square grills anyway now! I guess that's the beauty of making it up as I go along!

back to the drawing board!

Got to go, thanks again!
