Pink Panther strykes again! Grr Global Illumination in Mental Ray

Hey guys, random question. I have a scene, materials are all normal mental ray stuff nothing special. 3 photometric lights, all default settings. Final gather enabled, all looks fine until i check global illumination everything turns pink. everything is on its default settings. anyone?

What of your Global Ambient colour and Exposure Control settings? (in the environment and effects window)

everything is boringly standard :/ ambient colour is black, not exposure control selected. when i disable GI it renders a normal image. as soon as GI is ticked it goes pink!

Problem solved, it was something to do with materials. I applied a neutral material to everything and it renders perfectly now :/ very strange indeed
