How do I use Physical Material with an opacity map?
show user profile  Spear Chuck
Where is the opacity map slot for Physical Material? I just want a portion of an object to be visible and so I created a .png with a white area surrounded by black. I assigned the base color map of a flag to a box. Now I want to reduce the area the flag and box to the white area of the opacity map...where do I plug that in?

I can do it using the Standard material in Material Editor (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-DA60809C-7486-47BC-818B-61716CD3AE1E-htm.html)

...but how be it done using the Physical Material?

Is there now a transparency mask in material Editor or Physical Material?

It doesn't look like I can use an opacity map with Physical Material.

You can use "Cutout Map" to do 1-bit alpha.
Just plug in your alpha bitmap into it.

Thanks, I got it to work but now the cutout area is mirrored so that the shape of the United States outline has a Florida on the right and left coast...no partisanship intended.

I unchecked 'tile' in the bitmap image dialog but nothing. The alpha can be seen too.

The plane has a base color map with the same image cutout in black for the outer transparent area and white for the visible.
