Photography site is taking shape
show user profile  GirishDJoshi

I've finally found time and started testing, updating, making content for the website.

I got the wp zoom :D template from a designer friend who has bought the entire package. I might later purchase it or a better theme. This is for start-up.

I couldn't change the background color for slideshow offered by wpzoom. The black background looked sad over the white page. Does anyone how to change it.

Hence I downloaded a plugin and start working on it. I might buy the portfolio-slideshow plugin cause the present one doesn't have thumbnail option.

Choosing 20-24 images for portfolio from 5,000 and more images is such a painstaking task. This is going to take sometime. But I am 70% there.

The site map would be like this

Info > about

Kids & Family

Contact us

The portfolio will be in either gallery or slideshow mode.

Looking back at the site, what I am doing with the theme is basically something I could do with any free theme as well :P

Have a look at the site and let me know.

I am super dumb when it comes to Css. Presently I have got to a point where I can remove the line below the header, footer etc.

I don't know why the social media on the right of the logo is overlapping one of the lines.

How the hell do I remove those lines !!

Also, how can I make the page title eg, main page, wedding, etc be hidden or not show. Cause having a wedding title after clicking wedding is a little dumb.

All feedback, critique, help welcome (long time since I used that line)

My initial reaction to your site is that I'm hungry and would like a burrito.

I personally don't like the white BG, takes too much away from the photos.

Your site map seems overly complex. Do you get asked questions so frequently that you need a FAQ page? I might collapse the albums into Events and Food/Product, but I guess weddings are also good business for photographers...

I'd say that's my $0.02, but I've had a bit to drink so it's probably only worth $0.01

Been working more on the site and customizing it to what I've in my mind.

Thanks to sites like w3schools, color-hex & firefox inspect element that I could change a whole lot of things

I have been able to change the slideshow background, which means I can use the theme related background. Yay :) so instead of black it's white now.

Another happy moment before I sleep ;)

About the white bg, I tried black and lighter shade colors but they make the content and site look dull. I definitely prefer white over any other. I might test a background image, not very sure though.

Regarding the site map and other pages,

Having a drop down portfolio menu with 3 sub menus was an option I had thought of. But having the 3 main services right there helps a person understand what I do & makes it easier for the viewer to find what he needs

I am working on the FAQ contents, even I feel it's a big too much. I might move a few into about me, photo sessions

Thanks for reply and $0.02 ;)

Another thing I broke my head over and later to find out and realize is that chrome updates the site or the cookies after a certain while. The changes I made reflect immediately in firefox, IE & Opera but not Chrome. Changes I made yesterday night got reflected about 5-6 hours later I guess that's when I got up. But it's surely more than 2 hours.

Back to site work

I think white is fine when done right. At the moment I feel your images could be bigger. I'd lose the Facebook logo and contact stuff from the front page and get them into the contact section.

Check out how my friend has done his site. Simple, clean and lets the photography take center stage. I think he uses Wordpress as the back end as do a lot of people these days.

Beautiful site that. Wonderful portfolio. It is a wordpress site from theme forest. $45

The only worry for me with that look is, if I have around 25 images per set, it would take a lot of time to load the site, specially in India where internet speeds arent that great.

Thanks for the pointers.

I've read on a couple of wedding & lifestyle photographer sites that most of your contact & connectivity details should be on front page & easily accessible, so I've kept the social link & contact. But will think it over.

Increased the size of the images.

Looking at that site, I want a horizontal slideshow now :D Might pay for that theme.
