S. Silard, i don't agree.

In evolution there's innovation and there's replication.
As an artist is supposed to innovate he should never fear replication.
If he does, he's uncertain of his own skills.

Programmers recreate.
Artists create.

Awesome app, could aid a lot of people. Hope it works well as advertised!

I tried it with a mug on my desk and the result wasn't pretty. I took 15 photos in all and it did more calculating of the table it was on than the actual mug.

But I can see it being really useful if it works right off the bat. Especially in my industry, when working with retailers 100% of the time we have to model their products to visualise within the store designs which eats in to actual store design time.

Being able to create 3d models quickly from photos would save so much time as the products aren't the most important part of the render.

So is this free all the time? Unusual for Autodesk to give away something for free.

Good stuff!

While Photofly 2.0 is currently free, it is set to expire on December 31, 2012. This is stated near the bottom of the product page (
). This seems to imply that once they get a product they believe to be acceptable for sale (assuming it gets that far), they'll start charging for it. So, enjoy it while it's free, I guess!

A friend of mine gave it a whirl by taking photos of his girlfriend with some fairly decent results, as you can see in the following video (no, there's no nudity! lol):

He was sorting out the workflow of getting 3ds Max objects into the Sandbox2 editor for Crysis, hence the ginormous house facade. Funny stuff.

apparently you can get the soft on its knees if you send a 500 frames turntable... :)

So far for cloudcomputing power I'd say.
