Perforce + online server?
show user profile  digs
question 1: does anyone have experience working with perforce?

some friends and I are trying to set up perforce with unreal 4 - problem is I can't seem to connect to my buddy's computer via his IP address and server name - which is simply IPADDRESS:1666

which makes me wonder, do we need an online server to store the project?

question 2: does anyone have any recommendations for online servers?

I'm thinking that maybe we would be able to connect to an online server? not sure how different that is compared to just using someones local machine as the "server"

I have no experience with Perforce, but if you are not bound to it you should consider Git as an alternative. It is decentralized, meaning every repository is a fully functional copy on its own, you dont necessarily need a server, but if you want to you can easily host online repositories e.g. on www.bitbucket.org or www.github.org
BitBucket gives you the option to have private repositories for free, which is why I favor it.
