This may be better suited to a CAD forum but i'll give it a quick shot here.

So in CAD2012 you can insert pdf's as an underlay which seems to be as good as good as converting them to CAD because you can snap to all the points and do most things you would with a Dwg.

But if you then try and import this dwg into MAx it basically tells you that theres nothing in the drawing that can be imported, its almost like you could do with exploding it then saving though that specifically doesnt work as you cant explode.

Anyone else know how to go about this so i can get the pdf into max with vertex and the likes recognised?

Google it is though having been down this road before its a bit of a minefield with tonnes of stuff that doesnt do what it says and costs a fair bit. I thought with 2012 we finally had an in-built solution but it seems to have its drawbacks.

Cheers anyway.

I use Illustrator to convert the PDF to an illustrator 8 (or Illustrator 88 for older versions) .ai file type.
Then Import it into Max. It comes in as editable splines.

We just purchased this at work:

It seems pretty reliable so far when we need PDF to 2D autocad.
