Particle VFX work - best options?
show user profile  adammichell
Hey

So I've potentially got a cool project in to work with some particles for an ad.

They want a short ad (maybe 15 seconds) of powder particles reacting to the beat from music coming from a speaker.

I'm looking at possible solutions of doing this, however I've not done a lot of particle work so wondering if there is anyone who has and could point me down the right path.

So far I've been looking at Fume FX, Cebas Thinking Particles, Particle Flow, maybe Trapcode Particular. Does anyone have some suggestions?
It needs to look amazing - thats the main concern for the client ha.

It really depends on the shots...and more specifically the design.
Do you have any style frames or boards you can show?

The "look" would drive the method....not the other way around.
Almost impossible to pick a production method without knowing 100% what you are going for...

On the vague bit of info provided....and if I was in the phase of developing the look.....I would most likely play with Fume, Particlular and Pflow/Krakatoa.
If I could design it and pull it off with Particular I would.....otherwise on to Fume/Pflow/Krak in some combination.

Realflow works the best as far as realism goes.... they use it on films.

I picked up C4D specifically for this, within about 1 hour and I had the exact look I needed - probably the easiest piece of software Ive ever used. Looks great, plays realtime and you can use soft body dynamics too.
