Particle army!

I'm wanting to make a particle army but I am having a few issues.
1 being how I will get the said army to 'fight' with animations including and maybe even 'health' to give them a walkcycle (maybe random so I make 5 walk cycles and they pick one of those randomly) give each person a random texture (out of x) to give in variety to the army and for them to keep it through the entire march. have gravity that doesn't make them fall through the earth when walking up hills

1) without external plugins I think there is no way for you to do logical operations in a particle system so if you want health I think you will have to do it manually.
2)you can place all your animated models in 1 group and use shape instance -> select your group and check group members, acquire mapping, acquire material, animated shape.
3) EDIT:: you can place all your textures in a multi sub material and use material static-> Assign material ID -> Cycle
4) increase the subsamples: go to your PF Source and under system management -> integration steps increase it until the problem is solved.
