Outlaw Star XGP15A-II
show user profile  The_Great_Moo
I'm back!! Haven't posted in here for little over a year, but I've started a new WIP, the XGP15A-II a Grappler Ship from a anime show I have always loved called Outlaw Star. It was out around 1998 so making a 3d model of it now is very hard from limited resources on it. I was able to find a very good reference of it though. They put out a resin model kit of the ship back in 1998 but it was already rare then. So I doubt ill be able to get my hands on one to help make this 3d model lol.

I didn't start on the back end yet (engines) but here's what I got so far.

This is the main reference I'm using. I found this pic and hired a Japanese translator to translate the captions to English, did really help a lot to.

thats a quality render friend. It does look to me like a resin/plastic kit but thats maybe your intent. Nice lighting and modeling.

I'd personally like to see a bit of weathering and dirt. However saying that, those are really nice renders. Nice to see you new work, keep it up!

Yeah real nice. Reminds me that I always wanted to model the Ragnorak ship from FF8.

slight crit at this stage would be that the domeshaped thing (before the spiky structure at the end), needs more polys. but thats about it. Just pointing it out cause it would be easier to fix now then later. Other than that, again, very nice work.

that looks so awesome, i wish i could model stuff like that, however i am just starting out. but outlaw star was such an awesome anime, my brother bought the whole season on dvd, and i would always watch it on cartoon network when it was on, good work!

Very nice. Looks like you've been hard at work on your 3d since your last post. Big improvement over your previous posts here (no offense).

As far as reference material, whatcha mean there isn't much out there? I found a place where you can get plenty . :P

ahh yeah lots of 2d stuff, but its very hard going from 2d to 3d, if I were to get a hold of that model, it would already take care of that step lol

A little progress and a problem, in the render the gold parts seem to have infinite reflections and they become very white, what setting is that to adjust?
