Optimize mesh - like Maya
show user profile  topofsteel
I use Max you 99% of what I do. I would like to find a way to optimize meshes like the reduce tool in Maya. Pro optimizer is good. But I need a way of retaining the vertices around the perimeter. I need to reduce a number of large meshes and have the edges match. Is there a tool like this? Thanks.

Pro optimize is about as good as it gets inside of 3ds max I think. You can check the box to protect borders or use material groups(which will work if you are not using this info for anything else.

I've used this before to optimize dense meshes from CAD imports. Worked well (in Maya). Not free though.
