Olympics......or not?
show user profile  STRAT
just interested in how many sports buffs we have in the room.

Personally, the Olympics is just a passing interest for me. Will watch if it's all kicking off, at the same time not really giving a stuff if they all pulled out with injuries and the whole event was cancelled.

what about you guys? will you be a pain in the ass to your nearest and dearest for the next how many months, or not?

Once you sneer past the blatant political discourse and frankly sad attempts to dress up the games as unifying and ambitious, you're left with an enormous hemorrhaging of billions of pounds - for what? Pretty sure the queenie was up well past her bed-time last night. And, in two weeks time it will all be over. Pretty sad really.

Had a great time in Vicky park last night along with many others. Stratford had a great buzz to it when I was there last weekend and looks a whole lot better for the Olympics money so personally I don't feel hard done by. I can understand the negativity if you are far away from London I guess.

The Sporting element doesn't interest me too much but I do like the concept and feel like the games has a positive unifying quality.

Wish Boris would shut up on the tube though.

I live just across the river from Stratford so I have seen the upgrades from the Olympics money big deal ! how come it took so long to do anything over there ?

BishBashRoss you say Stratford had a great buzz last night well that makes a change cos for years Stratford has been known as knife central, I for one know of 3 peaple that have been attacked there and one of those died

My point is Stratford has been left to rot for years, and its the same for a few other places this side of the river, we have been told for years there is no cash for new housing, no cash to fix the roads and no cash left for the community centers, the list goes on , take woolwich, the council have cleaned up a lot of the high rise flats so they look great from the outside but you go inside and you will find the same rundown shit thats been there for years so its all about how it looks to others from outside the area not for those living there.

what I dont get is how come they found 9 billion for this crap that will last only a few weeks but cant spend money on stuff that will help the real peaple that live there.
I could go on but I wont..

> you go inside and you will find the same rundown shit thats been there for years

how about someone picks up a paintbrush ? though agree with a lot of that some people won't help themselves. if they want to live in a s-hole, up to them. they don't have to.

and before the 'paint's expensive they can't afford it' argument comes out, have seen loads given away on freecycle. just need a little elbow grease and motivation. that mentality is sadly missing in many quarters.

got some scrap metal to give away if any freecyclers want it. collect from olympic park :)

"how about someone picks up a paintbrush ?" well that may sound like the way to go but you try get permission to paint even a small part of your wall outside your door and you end up in alsorts of red tape mess, I read of a guy that painted the wall just outside his door and was ordered to clean it off or face a £200 fine plus cleaning chargesso you see dude its not so simple, your right AA some lazy sods dont mind living in a shit hole but what about those that want to do something but cant or are so pissed off with trying that in thew end they just have to give up. and it dont cover the fact that these places are left for shit when all the cash stays at the top so dont blame those without when those with could do so much more.

no they don't, they can write to their mp if the council are being assholes.

ofc if you want to paint something others might find offensive you might run into difficulties but a solid colour on a worn out or tag covered surface isn't going to upset any right minded person.
