objects gone wild! please give advice

Greetings maxforumers!

I have been working on an interior scene for couple of days now, as it always does until 2day, things went pretty smoothly: optimized modeling, managed materialing and texturing, keeping objects on layers, creating v-ray proxies off heavy objects and pretty much keeping everything neat and tidy.
i tried different approaches on modeling and decorating my scenes like merging premade objects, or simulating with max physix to model randomly scattered objects fallen on a surface like bowl full of fruits.

anyway so today i wanted to prepare everything for final render so i merge in all my scene decoration sets for each room like kitchen and tv room into my max, and its taking FOREVER. i tried inspecting the objects more closely I realized ANY object i save from my scene, is more than 400 to 900 mb big. if its a single chair or even 4 polygon box. and in my gear it takes about 2 min to save a simple box saved from the scene while i have no such problem in my other project files. and load times are even worse!

so there are couple of things i tried like converting everything to ediable mesh then back to poly. or even try merging my objects into new scene. none of that worked.one thing that did work was exporting to .OBJ then my objects would save normaly in size.

so i could really use some help here guys :)

Instead of merging all your scene decoration you could try to Xref those objects, or those scenes. That way they are not all in the same scene, they are just "linked".

well yeah but i mostly need to edit my objects and move them around according to their surrounding so i cant always be using Xref. plus this wont do me no good now with all my objects gone crazeh!:(

xref-scene/bind then you can move around.

we have an xref toolz plugin that lets you jump in/out of xrefs to edit them/parent scene easily if that helps. link in my sig.

you can do all this using standard max, the plugin just makes xrefs easier to work with.

You can still move them once they are on your main scene. And to edit them you can always open that scene and it will update on the other scene. Anyway, is really weird that every files is more than 400mb....

right!!? man i noticed there is are 3 keys in weight attribute in dope sheet, tried removing the keys and tried saving again. now my chair (90k poly) would save in 1.2 gb file! that even increased the file size! i mean what the hell!!!:O

export out to fbx. reset, import back in, save. should fix it.

it does, but what about materials?! wouldnt that remove all materials and id be forced to assign materials all over again? man we're talking more than 60 different kind of materials here :(

already done that if i merge in any object from the troubled scene, it drags in all the trouble with it and corrupts my project. export seems to be only solution for now....is there anyway to save all materials in the scene into one big giant material library and try to save the library into a file?!

could try collada instead of fbx.

standard max collada & open collada. try both.

fully patch max ofc.

could also try backsave to previous version - *might* lose the junk.

or select what you want & save selection.

Save your materials to a material library first; also would be handy for future reference.
