Nube Q requires nube A

new question at bottom

Hi chaps.

I'm in the process of updating my aged web site. The bones and mechanics of the site are staying the same, but the content, visual and navigation will alter slightly.

As you can see, the main gallery is basically controlled by a small html sequence i nabbed from the web that allows me to sequentially flick through my images without opening a new page. Or whatever. Anyway, i'm sure most of you have seen this before in loads of other web sites. It's quite a common routine.

I'm keeping this in the new web site, but i now want web links on some of the pages it flicks through. They're currently all jpg's.

Is this possible? Can i add a link onto a jpg page, or any other page format? Whilst staying in that sequence routine?

As i say, nube question requiring nube answer. Even though i wrote my own site coding, i'm not a wizz in html by any means and any answer will need to be easily explained if poss please?

Thanks mates

I am not sure, but I think image mapping helps you do that.

See if this helps

You can do the same in Dreamweaver. Am pretty lame with all this, but that's what I could find :P

you mean like this ?

no - that can't be what you're on about you have hyperlinked images on your site already.

don't really understand the q - example please.

G - like photoshop? I'll look into that tomorrow

A.S. put another way then.......

Go to my site and click on any of the thumbnails n the front page. The appropriate image then appears big in a separate little window. This is a jpg image. From this image i can use the left/right arrows to skip through the other imahes in the gallery.

But, how do i now add a line of text to any of those images that is a clickable web link whilst maintaining the same gallery viewing experience?

if I'm understanding you - the image display thingy already overlays hyperlinked text - the prev & next buttons. I'd go digging around in it figure out how they're doing that then duplicate to drop your own title link or whatever. without going deeper dunno & busy atm. maybe someone else has time.

the images have links - isn't it just easier & cleaner to just tie those into what you want.

simple solution - throw stephen rios some dough. am sure he'll have it just how you want in no time.

Well, i want a single big image (jpg?) to pop up within that sequence, with 2 or 3 separate links on it. Whether these are linkable areas on the image or, better if poss, linkable lines of text on/over the image. ?

I think thats the ticket mate, just need an easy way to do it that doesnt require dreamweaver. Hopefully, i can treat the image as a stand alone image with links in it, without the need for added coding for it to work.

thanks guys.

Girish - looks like the photoshop page-mapping is on the money. except, i cant link and page map whilst within the gallery css routine :( (or, you probably can, but i'm fekked if i know how )

So, my pages with links on will have to be separate mapped images me thinks.

kinda.

page mapping from photoshop works just dandy. very easy and effective. i will certainly use this method for individual splash pages i have that need links on it. i can then save this page out as a separate html page file or a simple jpg or png file. all supporting html code is built in and the link images are supplied in a small separate sub directory. simples.

But, these page-mapped images wont work in the css routine i have that slide shows my gallery. it's a clickable page within a clickable page. the first over-rides the latter.

I'm sure, as AS says, this can be over come, but i'm no coding wizz and dont intend on paying anyone to do it for me. Besides, i'll use my mapped pages in my splash section as separate pages and not i the css stream.

My main concern now is sorting out the wheat from the chaff for fresh content on my page. i got nearly 20 years for go through. i definitely intend to keep several 'older' images as im still most proud of some, but where to start and organise with the newer stuff? i'm also putting several pics per page, and slightly stylising the images in photoshop. No straight renders.
It's coming on just fine, just a lot to sort and organise. Next task is my animation page.

for HTML 5 buffs - i've recently been making small Flash (swf) anims. interactive QTVR files that will even play nicely in iphones. The anim and HTML 5 coding is simply stored and run directly from my server.
Can i do similar with animation sequences? i hate having to display my movies through vimeo or youtube. Can i somehow upload the mp4 onto my server, and play them direct from there in HTML5 somehow as well?

Thanks chaps
