Non quad to quad converter

Does anyone know of a script or plugin that automatically converts polygons that are non quads into quads. I'm having difficulty with a mesh I made. When I change one polygon with 3 sides to 4 sides, the polygon next to it now has 5 sides. If I take out on side of a 5 side polyon, the polygon next to it goes from 4 to 3... This is a nightmare.

Scriptspot, detriangulator will get rid of triangles and make them quads. Might not work, depending on your mesh.

But for what reason do you want everything to be 4sided?

I'm guessing it wont work for 4+ sided polygons. Ill give it a try. I hate the triangle because if I want to use Ptex, my mesh has to be all quads...

The new version of blender has a pretty cool quad topology tool thingy. Looked pretty impressive.

You know what... I'm a real big goofball! I didn't read everything... Apparantly, according to the website where you get Ptex, any nonquad mesh can be converted to a quad mesh by simply applying the meshsmooth modifier.
So basically, add the meshsmooth modifier, set you iterations to at least 1, collapse all, and now ptex will let you export the obj into the program! :D

Whenever you have a polygon with 3 or 5 sides you'll have to add or subtract some geometry (which is best depends on the situation). To get rid of a triangle by adding geometry simply select one of the three edges, then press ring and connect buttons. Use collapse instead of connect if you want to get rid of it and subtract geometry.
