noisy blurry reflections problem in vray
show user profile  nothingwrongtotryme
hi there,

Here is my image :

As you can see in the image, the bottom part of my product have lots of noise in the reflection, i tired to change the param. but not able to achieve fine smooth reflection, i cant keep reflection value to 1.0 so i have kept 0.75 and subdiv 8, i tried increasing subdiv to 20,30 but no help.

please help me in this regard.

Go to the QMC sampler and put the noise treshold in 0.001

and even if you cant get a nice result use the global multiplier to 2 or 3 or 4

you'll just need more subdivs, or a lower threshold. no reason to raise the global subdivs, if the only subdiv you want to raise is just that one material. try 80 in the material editor, or whatever gets you to where you are happy. And yes, more subdivs = longer render times.

If it's just for a still image (no animation) you can use the interpolation instead of raw subdivs for your glossies in your material editor. It'll be smooth, but it will be splotchy when you render an animated sequence. -

I just told you what to change :-) raise the subdivs of the reflection in that material to 80. if it looks good, leave it or lower it for faster render times. if it's still noisy, try 120, or something higher than what you just used. The help files can help you on the interpolation of the glossies more than I can, I never use that option because everything I do now is animated.

I also like QMC image sampling instead of adaptive. QMC seems to be faster for glossies and other sibdivided things.

There are alot of things that can change the way noise behaves. Vlado wrote a short while ago that he likes QMC image sampling with a min of 1, max of 100. Set the QMC adaptive amount to 1.0 (it defaults to 0.85 I believe) Leave your subdivs on everything to their default settings, then lower your noise threshold untill you are happy with the noise. I believe that was the jis of what he wrote. This applies only to new version I believe, as things with the QMC have changed since the previous public release I think. -
