Maxunderground news unavailable

Any news on max2010 pflow,hair and cloth improvements ?

They speak of preset pflow stuff alowing fluids and what not, also cloth balloons etc ?
I wanna know more :D

Any word on a releasedate ?

And i'm still unsure if i should get max or max design :/

Can you link to post that shows fluid with Pflow tools? As far as I know the new pflow tools are basically what you get from Particle Flow Tools Box #1, just made a bit more efficient and stuff integrated in.

there are only a couple of new features Hair&Fur:

-- Spline Lock - guides can be locked to some spline cage, you can animate that.
-- Region and Region Crop rendering.

+ lot of fixes were made.

-- we made some V-Ray hair primitive shades. however Autodesk does not going to distribute it with 2010. Probably you can contact with Joe Alter (the producer of Hair&Fur) ( if you are interested in it. RSS

Advanced Effects
PFlowAdvanced lets users incorporate sophisticated particle effects into their scenes­perfect for creating water features, fireplaces, or other elements. It includes 14 operators new to 3ds Max Design including new precision Painting tools (for precise particle placement), the Shape Plus operator (for defining the shape of particles) and a wide range of Grouping operators (for creating subsets of particles). It also extends and optimizes the previous PFlow functionality while reducing user interface (UI) complexity, resulting in vastly improved performance and a streamlined, thoroughly 3ds Max Design workflow.

A whole new range of cloth effects is now available to 3ds Max Design users. The cloth toolset now supports pressure settings for simulating inflated, enclosed cloth surfaces (e.g. cushions, balloons) and cloth can now be torn with variable strength and timing (e.g. cutting, tearing and unzipping cloth). Collision objects can even be set to cut cloth when they collide. Finally, a new Inherit Velocity tool blends a new simulation with one from previous frames to create a smooth transition for staged simulations.

The 3ds Max Design Hair toolset has now been enhanced to give visualization specialists more precise control over the styling and animation of hair (often used for grass). A new Spline Deform feature enables them to add splines to a set of hairs which act as control guides so that the hairs can be posed, keyed or assigned a dynamic target – with the hair following.

Real-time shader updates are a step in the right direction (you can now sync real-time shaders with standard materials). Unfortunately it's currently too crashtastic to use.

I thought the only difference between Design and regular MAX 2010 was the inclusion of the SDK in MAX and the advanced lighting stuff in Design. Now they're adding Particle Flow stuff to Design too?

i really don't see what their goal is with max and max design
they could start with naming it correctly like Max Media vs Max Design or something

Yeah, they are also going to put CAT animation software in Design as well.. Not that I don't want Design people to have everything it's just that it doesn't make sense. Meanwhile non-Design people aren't getting anything new. SDK doesn't count because you can already get that if you wanted it.

So far, Design has been getting everything that non-Design has been getting plus additional features.

They should just keep 3ds Max as one package.


Yeah that description regarding PFlow addition is just advertising like what you can do with it from what I can see. They integrated Particle Flow Tools Box #1 into 3ds Max. The only' new' aspect I've read is that they are including a bunch of pre-made flows that people can use to start from for their own purposes.

One thing I did read before that was mentioned in Ken's blog I believe but not listed as a main feature (a lot of improvements haven't been listed) is that the viewport picking/selection has been made to work a lot better, the way people expect it to work.

does that mean that now clicking in the viewport doesnt select the furthest thing away from the camera i.e. edges? that should have been fixed many many versions ago.

I'm disappointed there is no mention of HW MR rendering with NVidia cards. They have said that there are many things on the roadmap ahead, so I shall hope that is is still coming.
