new website re-launch

(you might need to press F5 or re-fresh your browser when loaded)

old version launched earlier this week -http://www.sjleworthy.com/site_ver01/index.html

Hi fellers, after consideration and taking some of your comments on my first site release on board, i've re-hashed things and come up with a decent (in my opinion anyway) compromise.

1) on A.S. advise, i've gone back to 1024 px wide. still seems the industry standard and fits better on more devices in testing. if i have vertical scroll issues then so be it. 1280 px didn't seem to cut it properly

2) Take out the thick chunky fonts and curly graphical motifs. As you say, probably did the site no favours and looked like it way trying too hard. I've kept the dark grey UI and the text, even though lighter, isn't as light as some might like, but i'm happy with the change.

3) navigation options are more logical and the site is less cluttered now. html amends makes it site better on different browsers and scaled windows

4) Sorry Grish, thumbnail and image size stay the same.

Tried a 'white' version but looked too run of the mill and didn't like it. Also still keen to keep things simple and not spend on it. I have decided to code another version with drop down menus and sub galleries and a front page and all that. that should give me easier scope to add/change imagery, be more 'conventional' and change image size and graphical layouts.

thanks for the advise guys

much better.

the logo top left - refine a bit more ?

mouse over highlight - currently white, maybe use one of the purples from the logo to make it stand out more ?

or some other means of making the highlight a little stronger. it's too subtle at the moment imo.

top hyperlink to your email would link to your profile instead.

i'll probably refine that in the next version. or now too maybe, dunno yet.

the mouse-over highlight is a slight pink. infact, i was going to make it less stated if anything

the highlight isn't bad - you're swapping the image for another with highlight in it, right ?

that + a one pixel border in some theme appropriate colour would probably work.

Mate, you have gone from really quite bloody good to amazing, 'top of the game' in the last decade. Your work is awesome.

Oh yeah, and the website is better now. :)

Much better :) I know you have already said thumbnail image sizes stay the same. but I think they would look so much better square, so same width but extend the height of each thumbnail.

And loose the bevel, vignetting effects you have on them and just make them nice clean square shapes with no rounded corners or effects over the top. You have them much cleaner on the profile pagehttp://www.sjleworthy.com/profile.html

Logo doesn't stand out very well against the grey, perhaps the header could be an infinite white strip across the top?

Just an observation but when clicking the logo I expect to go back to the home page not bring up to send you an email. I think its a more common use and people expect to use the logo as a home beacon.

Thanks guys.

Yup, will update that banner link now. Appreciate i no longer need my 'home' button in profile page, but i know too many peeps who need their hands holding when web site navigating.
Also slightly 'aged' my logo.
