new power house pc time...

hello chaps and chap-ettes...

so with money back in the good; it's time to go get some new hardware. last time i put together a computer it was with an i7 920 and 12gb of ram. not exactly fast anymore (my soon to be retina mbp will be faster with more ram funny enough)...

so, i would appreciate all your thought on the below. (my reasoning with going with the tyan possibly is future-proofing the rig. 24 dimms of ram means it'll be a long time till i run out of ram and as long as the LGA2011 keeps around for a couple of years; upgrading should be easy)

primary functions will be 3d vray rendering... gpu based prototyping and (when thunderbolt comes out for pc's) editing.

2xgtx680 is better than 1x690! both the motherboards also support udimms, as long as you're not planning to use more than 68gb on the asus or 128gb on the tyan board, rdimms are just a waste of money.

The sad part is that an overclockex 1366 system still beats the new xeons even though they have 2 more cores, just by a hair though and with a lot more hassle but still, dam yoo intel!
