New Infinity build up ...
show user profile  advance-software
Hi guys,

As most of you know, Advance Software is developing a new 3D web browser called Infinity.

Details here : http://advance-software.com

The project has been in R&D for some time and the browser and tools are maturing into products that are sufficiently robust for use by others.

It'd be helpful to get a little feedback (critique) of what needs doing next so I know where to focus. If anyone can spare a few minutes to take a quick look (particuarly at the exporter), it would be appreciated.

What I need to know now is what are the key blockers preventing a successful roll out. Once these issues are addressed, it is our intention to remove the copy protection & roll out v.1.0. free of charge.

Content can be authored using standard materials or real-time shaders (using default.fx in the infinity shaders directory). Do we need to support other shader types or does it "just work" ?

Normal maps, specular maps and reflection maps and shadows are supported by our hardware shader, though this functionality is not complete. Perhaps this is where I should focus ?

A fully functional (but basic) vertex lit shader is enabled by default for maximum compatibility with legacy hardware.

Cheers,
Steve.

For shits and giggles I'll download and give it a whirl.

Need an auth code.

The artwork (including UIs) is all prototype, so I'm not looking for feedback on that at the moment- just functionality for now.

The process being - get it working, get it fast, get it pretty. (in that order)

Cheers.

Should be in your inbox. This is a one off process. Once you have a code, subsequent builds use this so don't need unlocking.

Cool, email sent. Will pay attention to how it functions over everything else.

@gogodr - cheers. with the latest build ? They load fine for me.

You don't have a single core system do you by any chance ?

Everything seems to be working goodly for me. I am actually posting this from infinity.

The cursor is reaaaaaaly slow for me. I will update with more in a bit.

Right click functionality seems funky. Sometimes it maximizes the current screen I am on, some time it turns mouse control on.

>The cursor is reaaaaaaly slow for me

Toolbox icon (opens preferences dialog), adjust cursor speed - top slider.

>Right click functionality seems funky. Sometimes it maximizes the current screen I am on, some time it turns mouse control on.

This is correct behaviour - it's click time sensitive. A short click changes modes, a long click frames or unframes content. This is necessary because not everyone has three (or more) mouse buttons and you need all the functionality on the mouse. Once you get used to it, would be good to know if this control method feels natural. I like it, maybe others don't.

You didn't answer the question - how many cores does your CPU have ?

>and it worked on the last build
I've done some optimising since then & might have gone too far. This is good feedback - thanks. I'll fix once I've figured out what the problem is.

Doesn't save my login for maxforums. That would be a deal breaker there.

Having a windowed mode would be invaluable.

ImageShack links don't work in this browser. Having a picture in picture type of pop up display would be nice for those websites where you WANT pop ups.

Ahhh now the websites are zoomed in and reallllly large.

The resolution seems to be also stretched out on my 16:10 monitors.

'k - cheers - I suspect cookies in general are not working. I'll take a look.

> Having a windowed mode would be invaluable.
This is not currently possible due to a technical restriction caused by the way Moz/Gecko renders content. There is a fix in the works from the Mozilla team, once this is done, we can support windowed mode. My guess is that this is probably about three months out.

>ImageShack links don't work in this browser. Having a picture in picture type of pop up display would be nice for those websites where you WANT pop ups.

Ahh ... yes, popups. Which require tabs. We only have support for one tab at the moment. I guess this is a pretty high priority next phase extension. Again, thanks.

Beyond the basics, we could do cool things with popups, like seed them somehow in the 3D scene. Maybe.

So, I'm thinking, add support for popups, cookies & fix whatever's stopping gogodr's build working first, then get back to graphics engine (shader) enhancements once the basics are solid.

Crashed.

Was travelling from one website to another, and clicked on preferences mid connection and the program froze, had to force quit it.
