Neat piece of kit
show user profile  mike_renouf
Not what i was looking for, but this is a clever bit of kit, if horribly over-priced...
http://palettegear.com

I was actually looking for midi controllers for music, but stumbled on that little link.

looks nice and all but horribly over priced doesn't even come close to it.
That could easily be a 20$ DIY project to learn very basic electronics.
and maybe 40$ more to 3d Print a really neat case for it.

Hello there

This is totally sick! Yeah its a bit over priced but compared to what? Its the kinda thing a photographer needs not a game artist. This would speed up editing by an order of magnitude.

I love the idea of this kind of workflow.

FYI @gogodr, That would cost a ton to 3D print casings for. Its nota small device

I've got a Nektar Impact LX right under my two monitors, 10 sliders, 8 rotary's, 34 buttons, all I need is the software ;)

Nice concept, silly price.

I like the idea of replacing software tools with physical knobs, sliders and buttons. 300$ is a bit too much though and you also need to have a lot of extra desk space.

Try coding the connection between the hardware and software, then give me a call about it being over priced.

ccampbell> Mostly hollow (walls can be 1 or 2 mm thick) and the components makes most of the stuff.
That can't be that expensive and if it is, then it can be done with some thin acrylic and a cnc cutter for very cheap.

bolteon> I am not saying it is the easiest thing in the world, but adobe has a very complete SDK for their products. http://www.adobe.com/devnet/photoshop/scripting.html

Looks interesting, I might do this as a personal project :3
I already have some experience making custom midi controllers.

When I said its overpriced, I was comparing it with the raft of midi controllers that are out there already - which effectively do the same thing. They're boxes with knobs and sliders which control software.

If you consider that IOS actually has midi integrated into its core, I am amazed that this product seems to be one of a kind. Am I missing something?

What I'm getting at is - is there not an open source bit of code available for windows (or Mac for that matter) that will let you plug in an off the shelf midi controller and assign it to some standard operating system macros? That would be kind of fun to control the rotation of camera view in max with a couple of on-desk dials?

I found these after reading your initial post. don't know how relevant it is today :

Most of the generic controller stuff I found was all Mac based except for KnobRoom...yes you read it right...KnobRoom :)

Currently limited to Lightroom.

There's Bomes, but it's not OS, I've yet to try it.

Thanks for looking FX. Sadly the "Max" these articles refers to is a coding platform for Ableton Live. You can build musical synths or interface elements using it if you know how.

I was only half-serious about the midi controller for 3DSMax thing, but its interesting none the less.

Speed up, yea probably. but I don't think anywhere close to an order of magnitude.

Do you guys not use hotkeys? :D

Since I've had to process well over 1 thousand images in Camera raw for real estate so far (guessing, most likely even more than that), I can say that this would be completely awesome to have.

That being said, still wouldn't throw down the cash for it unless all I did was photography.

I guess I'm not the target audience in the slightest, but I cringed hard while watching that hipster-centric ad. "Let me just connect this giant radio dial from the 80's so I can hook it up to the contrast slider, oh and I'll need another one for hue, and another for saturation, oh and my curves, can't forget those, maybe a big green button that I can hook up to the "Save" function, gee that'd be super.".

You've got a KEYBOARD in front of you, you idiots!
