Your models have all sorts of proportion issues.
It looks like you didn't use any reference, and it looks like you should have.
[EDIT] Good effort though :)

good for a first set tho i must say, i remember my first character who resembled a shoebox. looks like your moddeling isnt bad, just do plenty of research, human proportions are a biatch!
He who says it cannot be done is interrupting the man doing it.

yeah thats what it looks like ... i see your using zbrush to do some of the modeling .. i would stick to zbrush overall for organic stuff if you have the pleasure of using it ...
anywho there is a human making program called .. well makehuman ... you could make the body type in make human and use it for reference . . i would suggest using it as a base for your characters and just ajust the detail in zbrush then export to max ... but makehuman cuts the models up into pieces and it could take hours putting them back together ..
oh and its opensource ... that means FREE really easy to use.

since you are still in stage zero you might as well start at the beginning
- learn to draw
- learn basic anatomy, major features/muscle groups/the human skeleton
- draw your characters on paper
- then learn to model them and I assure you you'll be A LOT better at it

Well my method was just plain Cheating ... I have to agree and encourage you to take Seth's method instead ..
