My first 'job'.

Well it's a competition worth 300 quid. And I guess it's my first 3D gig in which I'm creating something for someone else - hopefully it turns out alright :D

Our University recently splashed out big time and built a 7 floor library on campus:

(wow, quick edit: first post made it seem like these images were my handiwork... I wish :p - this is just what the swanky new library looks like - the 'job' / competition is for something else entirely, read on) [/edit]

And, seeing as it's nearly finished, they want to complete the Donor Wall. It's basically going to be an "interactive video display" highlighting all the names of individuals, companies and organisations which made this new building possible. I don't know anything else about it.

I've registered for the formal project briefing to take place on 6th of June - and I'm basically going to go wild with camera paths and animated text/logos in 3DS Max. So I'll keep my progress updated here and let you all know how I get on :)

Ahh gotta love jumping in with both feet and missing the ocean of small print :)

"The prize will be £300 plus a commission to produce your winning design in time for the opening of the building in September.

A “designathon” will take place on the 6th June where you will be briefed, will get the opportunity to see where the winning entry will be displayed, and where you can work on developing your prototype. At the end of the day you get to showcase your idea to a distinguished selection panel, including one of the project’s architects.
Here’s a great reason to stay in Aberdeen for a couple of days beyond the end of term, and to see your work in lights in pride of place in the new building!"

I thought I would have plenty of time to create the 'concept' / 'prototype' - but it seems as though they want it completed on campus using the University Computers... This complicates things, as I'm sure my university doesn't have 3D Studio Max / nor facilities capable of running it to any great extent... Probably going to go old school and just story-board the concept and sell it to the 'distinguished selection panel'.

I also didn't realise that you earn the commission also - I'm presuming this means you will get paid on top of the £300 'prize' for winning the selection process? Effectively the stakes have been raised - better get sketching. I'll find out more on Monday.
