My Dayz short film

this short film is based on teh Arma2 Mod Dayz.
felt like making this so i did.

this is the final, i know there are some strange things in it but the arma2 editor isnt the easiest to play with.
but i like the outcome.


But do you think I'll ever get a job at Pixar? That's one of my goals in life.

I enjoyed this.

My experience with DayZ hasn't been great. Either a zombie sees me from a mile away, and they never give up or I get shot from a distance, and bleed to death.

i know dayz can be a bitch.
but when you understand the infected AI they arent that difficult to sneak by or get them lost.
other players are most dangerous.

But do you think I'll ever get a job at Pixar? That's one of my goals in life.

some tips. you can get zombies easily lost by running around a big object.
or go into a building with two entries. in buildings they start to slow walk.
or run on a steep hill where you normally slow down move diagonaly then you keep running.
zombies dont do that and slow down also.

zombies have an animation when they lost you they stop and go to the last place they have seen you.
youll see this cycle often when they are running after you. they lose you and directly spot you again.
thats the moment you need to get out of their line of sight.

easily done by running around big objects.

trial and error,

getting past them is also easy. easiest way and slow is prone and holding shift. they then only can see you at a distance of couple of meters.
zombies walk in a straight line and sometimes make a turn to go another straight line.
so dont sneak in to their line they are walking to but get behind them.

jup but that isnt what i mean with strange:) thats normal in arma :P
strange is that arma2 changes the face of the characters. take a good look and youll noticed that the character has 3 different faces during the short.

I like your direction. The beginning is nicely done and builds up the layers of story and tension:
- opening shot: deserted town, everyone dead?
- man approaches town carrying a gun, what is he planning?
- town isn't uninhabited after all, what's happened?
- man with gun aimed scouting town, maybe these people are dangerous?
- weird man ambles past camera, is he crazy?
- man running down street, what's he running from?
- we see zombies chasing the man.


I think that at 0.56 you should have shown a POV of the barn as the tone suddenly changes from hunted to hunter without a change in dynamics. If the man only pulls out the gun (or starts running around with it aimed) after he enters the barn (like at 1.05) after seeing the hanged people, THAT should have been the moment when the man says, "Fuck it, let's kill those fuckers."

I would also have liked for him to blast a hole in a zombie skull before heading off in the car.

Final gripe, really needed to see an establishing shot of the sniper BEFORE the sniper cam as I was temporarily confused.

also liked to let the character shoot a zombie, first need to learn how to script this:)
still playing around with the arma2 editor (maybe ill add it later, or add it in an new video)

the last part with the sniper needs to be this suddenly.
if you played the game you understood.
the airfield he visits is a hotspot for snipers.
many beginners rush to this place only to suddenly get shot by a sniper and lose everything they worked hard for:P
