Multiple Normals Per Vertex!
show user profile  ccampbell
hey guys just wondering if anybody has run into this problem.

I model that has multiple normal vector's at each vertex point. it appears that when applying the edit normal modifier that there is 1 normal per edge connecting to the vertex. Ive seen this before but never head to try to be rid of it. will upload an image if needed. Thanks!

I am writing a custom shrink wrap script but this is causing alot of headaches. if it makes any difference the model was created from 3d scan data and decimated to a lower poly count and exported as an OBJ to me. I have also checked to be sure i am not selecting co positional vertices.

That sounds like smoothing groups.
Whenever you have hard edges in your smoothing groups, the verticies representing the borders will get multiple normals, one for each smoothing group it is connected to.

If its an issue with it you may want to try to reset the smoothing groups. Also try reset x-form.

It could also be as simple as multiple verticies in the exact same location.
