multi subobject materials
I would like to know how to work with multi sub object material in slate material editor for mental ray.I am trying to make an interior scene with box geometry.thanks for your help.

Add a standard Multi/sub material, create the sub materials separately, then link them all to the multi/sub and apply that to your object.

i generally would avoid using material ID sets for multi/sub mat assignment because objects with different material are usually separate meshes anyway(in their own objects) and there are better ways to use mat IDs like quick selection of some specific area on a highpoly mesh which combined with hiding can make rigging/soft dynamics faster to set up or you can use them to get hard edges on meshsmoothed objects
