Mudsculpt - Aging..
show user profile  soontekk
Currently working on a project showing the effects of aging on a woman for leading Belgian plastic surgeons.

The final output will involve several morphs showing the different effects of aging.

the bumps on the neck seem wrong. they should be more like folds and less like lumps i think. it's for plastic surgeons, so they'll probly notice even tiny problems with it.

Looks like grandma!

Burne Hogarth had a nice sequence of an aging head in his book
"Drawing the human head" I think. The lumpy wrinkles next to the
nostrils look a bit odd.
All in all I think it's way cool. Nice technique.
It's got a corpse like feel with the shading.

Just like grandma!

Hi guys, thx for the crits

Forgot to mention that most 'features' are a bit exagerated to allow morphing to lets say 75 % or less so that should make it less drastic.

The actual rendering will be using MR sss to give it a rubbery feel as oposed to a real human, i should feel like an academic model rather than a real human.

I agree on the crease next to the nose though, i will have to make that less pertruding for sure.
We have a meeting this week to check all lumps and bumps so i can finetune the model and start animating it :) which will be fun to say the least!

Cheers
Kurt

the main problem i have with it is that it looks like a constipated male- i'm not trying to be mean, just honest, sorry if it reads that way
i did a quick paintover- i hope you see what i'm getting at- there just aren't enough female triggers to tell me the sex as it stands

again, hope you're not offended- last time i did a paintover for someone they didn't talk to me for a month
you'll get there mate- need better ref though

More droop under the eyes would be good, as per K'tonne's paintover.
I assume it's wip so will get more aging on the cheeks and temples.
The nose and ears keep growing on old folks and are usually quite distinctive.
Looking good.

Very good point K-Tonne (yeah yeah, not speaking to you for a month !!, just kidding :)
I'll try to femalify her some more but i can't go as far as your paintover because i have to stick to the base female that is underneath all the painting. Still i'll be checking your paint to see where i can femalify

Maybe ill do a version going wild fot myself :)

Thanks again

edit: if anyone knows a good site with human references towards bones/muscles/aging/wrinkles please let me know

not sure why you can't refine the base mesh, it has too many male traits at the moment- forehead, jawline, cheeks etc
anyways old babes are thin on the ground but this might give you a good idea of what happens to ageing skin- thins, sags, lips thin, eye surround receedes, pockets of fat droop/ thin/ spread out and where wrinkles appear over time for this face type http://free-textures.got3d.com/natural/free-character-references/free-character-texture-references-woman-9/index.html
or google someone like bette davis who's old but famous

K-tonne you fecker! (/poke)

Great paintover. I agree it doesnt look female.

Also the wrinkles are all over the place but missing in some key area's. It doesnt look like the wrinkles belong. For example the crow's feet. You get those from closing and squinting your eyes. So they radiate outwards from the corner of the eye. Whereas with your model they originate on the inside of the eye circle around and then slant up. Not only that you also have some strange double smile creases. This is just not how it works in real life. In real life the nasolabial fold deepens but it doesnt become double (not as far as i know at least). What does happen is that because the smile puff's the cheek that over time you get some lines below the eye's that slant diagonally down. This is (again) because skin gets bunched up there form smiling. Another key wrinkle thats missing is the "commisural fold". This an elongation from the smile crease down towards the bottom of the chin. This is very clear to see on almost everyone of age.

Then there is the quadruple wrinkling at the top of the nose. The reason people get wrinkles there is roughly because of three muscles which are called the corrugator group. Two of them pull the eyebrows in and one pulls them down. Because of that people usually get two or three at the max vertical folds and they are much deeper then what you have sculpted. In general it feels like you have "too many" wrinkles which are wronly placed and the few right ones are not deep enough. If you want to sculpt horizontal folds there you need to place them in between the eye's on the nose bridge and they need to be faint cause she isnt pulling her eyebrows down. The wrinkle storm right above the eyebrows is just not right. There is bone underneath. If there are to be wrinkles they need to be on the forehead cause thats where the skin gets pulled towards and thats where it bunches together. The whole key is to make the wrinkles where the skin bunches together and nowhere else. Id also seriously soften the wrinkles in her neck.

I scanned some stuff in for you which will help you alot.

Lol, wow, thx 3dioot
The eyes (kraaipootjes) are already in a new version but some extra wrinkles and natural outflows are needed like you guys said.

Still can't make her too female for another reason, they don't specifivly want her to be (very) female because they want to generalize the presentation of the aging which is similar with both men and woman but i'll still tweak her though.

thx a bunch for the scans, the more refs the better and yours show me a lot of extra things !
damn this thing will keep me busy for years lol

ps: i like the ref below a lot (maybe i should add some warts :)
