Mudbox to Max import problem
show user profile  asd
I've made a mesh and painted on it in Mudbox, exported as FBX then tried to import it in my 3ds max version 6.0. But I couldn't see anything on-screen. What's wrong?

have you tried exporting to obj instead?

... or try a newer max collada importer like opencollada (rather than the built in one).

3ds max 6 doesn't have .OBJ importing capabilities.

I tried that and got:
COLLADAMax can only be installed if either 3ds Max 8, 9, 2008, 2009 or 2010 are installed.

Mine is Max 6...

Hmmm ... the source is available so it could probably be compiled for max6 without too much difficulty.

Let's see if you can find an existing solution first.

How about .3ds format ?

Can you use some other tool to convert to that ?

E.g. milkshape / blender, etc.

Look around for recent max import plugins that are compatible with max6 & convert to whatever format they support.

@advance-software: Finding importers that support Max 6 is the easy part. I'd really want to know why a FBX loader doesn't load FBX files.

Because it's old and cr@p. Use a newer importer, of whatever flavour you like & you should be fine.

You might also be interested in our new viewport shader - Infinity Shader - it provides enhanced viewport capability in all versions 3dsmax from 6 onwards. A new build will be available shortly.

This will give you real-time normal maps, etc. in the max6 viewport. Use is free for beta testers.
