Mud material/surface

I was wondering how you can add a mud-like material with mentalray in 3DSMax. I've been trying for three days now, but I can't seem to make it work.

Is there anyone who can help me / give me some advice on how to make it work?

im a vray guy so i would suggest blendmaterial... considering you dont have this maybe shellac? try a dry dirt layer as the bottom material with a refletive/glossy material on top. i would vary where the gloss is using a smoke map on a composite or something.

Someone else may have something a little more specific but thats probably a good start. use different UV channels for mapping the sections you want with different glossiness/reflective/matte

Hi, thanks!

I found a vray material called mud Mud by_polymorph. this material works with a displacement map.
and is build up with noise modifiers. looks really great!! kudo's for polymorph.

I put the same setup in mentalray and that works fine to. Until i try to scale the mud in mental ray. uvw map and noise are not working togheter and scaling in the noise is not small enough.
In vray I found this was not a problem.I switched the scene to vray cause i didnt know how to work arround this.

PS:

Is there a good place to get really deep into the material creating. vray or mental ray.
I feel there is a lot to learn for me there.
