Moving eyes for game character, skin or just manual rotation?
show user profile  luzarius
What is the best way to make eyes move left & right, up & down for a game character?

- Skin modifier on the eyes + bones

OR

- Rotate the eye

rotate the eye using ingame vector algorithms

He who says it cannot be done is interrupting the man doing it.

I think having one being an instance of the other and both of them having there own link constraints(so they wont move when the character does) and then rotating the parent one(thus making the instance move as well) would do the job.

Depends on the engine. Some engines export the rotation of objects, some require everything to be skinned to some sort of bone. Almost everything supports bones and skinning to some effect to si would create an eye bone and skin accordingly. You can then do a look at target on the bone to have the eyes work together. jareu where is the ingame vector algorithms on button?

the button was actually in my "direct 3d for C++" book, i could plug the book in via usb and open it up to chapter 6 for object rotation and press this huge red button. works every time for me :)
