Moving from 3ds Max 2009 to 2011

So I have a project that was made in 3ds max 2009 and rendered the entire sequence just fine without any issues but then when I opened it up in 2011 and rendered it, it kept crashing, telling me that it ran out of memory, constantly addressing either a different texture map but usually just saying that it ran out of memory. In Task Manager I would notice that the project does eat up more memory in 2011 than in 2009. It's very strange. I'm running on x86.
So, any theories, guesses as to why this happens? I assumed that when you upgrade, things only get better :P

Are you rendering using mental ray? If so, the settings have changed a bit, and you might need to lower some sampling settings, as the algorithms have changed.

Yes I am in fact using Mental Ray.
I thought that was the problem! Thanks so much!
