Morpher test within a skin

Hi all :)
I am trying to test a theory with regards to character rigging. I am using a simple leg rig to test it.

So here goes. I have three bones to create a leg. Under the thigh bone I have a simple mesh of a muscle which is linked to the thigh bone. The muscle mesh has a Morpher on it with a clone muscle of a different shape.

Over all of this is a simple leg skin from the ankle to the top of the thigh. I have included all the bones and muscle meshes in my skin.

What I want to happen is when I change the parameters in the morpher the muscle will change shape and I want that to move the skin. The muscle does change shape, but the skin does not move at all? :/

Am I missing something or is this just not going to work.

why not just use 'skin morph'? that's what its there for :)

Hi Mrgrotey :)

I will have to admit I have never used skin morph, but I will have a go. But what I wanted to achieve is a skeleton made up of bones with all the muscles modelled and attached to the skeleton. Then using wire parameter to wire in the individual morphs on each muscle to the bone. So when a leg was moved the muscles would morph automatically to follow the bone. But also if there was a skin on the top level that would be deformed by the muscle mesh as well.

It was only an idea, just wanted to see if it could be done. Perhaps I'm being over ambitions.

That's exactly what skin morph does (and what its for in the first place), you skin the model like normal then add skin morph on top and you can set the morph to happen at a particular bone angle, you use it for things like muscle expansion other things that skin cant do properly like elbow joints that collapse when at extreme angles.

Job situations no better :(

Sorry to here that things have not improved.

The one thing I cannot do is have animated muscles and to be able to see them. An animated anatomical model for want of a better word.

if u want dynamic collision between muscle and skin then max sorta provides this via CAT muscle strands but its very clunky and tedious to use, the only sane option i know is bonespro commercial plugin that allows you to use poly colliders straight on skin

if you are suicidal enough you can also script some splines, they can be very powerful in terms of dynamics but after doing a shoulder like that a while back i found myself knee deep in highschool math books and with a raging headache :p
