...until Dec 24.

I couldn't find the old thread but I seem to remember of few people interested and learning about the promo too late.

Does anyone know if a Modo individual license can be loaded on two machines like Max?
Or do you need to buy a floating license?
I don't see a clear answer on the website.

Joey,

You can have it installed on as many machines as you would like.

Their philosophy is that the software is registered to the user, not the machine.

They also just launched MODO Steam for 120€.
According to this thread, the differences with standard MODO are that it's for non-commercial use and the export formats have been limited.

It's on sale again! Offer ends on international talk like a pirate day (Sept. 19th)

Also, Vray for Modo is entering public Beta. Looks like it is nicely integrated.

Hmmm i'll have to give modo another try, what's the upgrade cost usually run from version to version?

(\/) (°,,,°) (\/) Woop woop woop!

Looks like $495 without the promotion

With Modo, you can upgrade whenever you want to. an upgrade from 501 to 801 is the same cost as an upgrade from 701 to 801.

Any die hard Modo users here? I hear Vray is coming to Modo and since it's tightly bound to The Foundry and Nuke as well as not being tied to AD it interests me.

How does it stand with Maya? I hear baking isn't there YET, but would all ya'll agree that sooner than later Modo is going to pretty much have most the capabilities of Maya?

Damn, I was just watching how it imports stuff from Solidworks. My God does that look painless. Retains the material appearances too.

I use Modo about 80% of the time... 3ds max for the rest.

For the latest release, they have a baking kit that deals with a lot of the problems, and it is free. I haven't tried it out yet, so I don't really know.

The standard rendering engine in Modo is very nice, and works well with imported CAD data. The rounded edges shader is the best implementation that I have seen, and that helps a lot with imported models.

aside from the native importing of solidworks files, there is a plugin called Power Translator that will import CAD data in as "mostly" quads... a few triangles here and there.

Modo's main strengths are modeling, retopo, and rendering. Not as good with animation, particles and dynamics, but each release is making these better. You may also miss the modifier stack... there is limited history available.

Hope that helps.

Well right now I'm transitioning into Maya and moving away from 3ds so I already miss the mod stack ;)

With powwaaa translator though (at least for maya) the appearances inside of SW don't transfer over :(

That's a huge make it or break it deal. I was excited to see that they transfer over in Modo, but now I'm reading up that the lack of tessellation density control is sort of lame because you can get some wavy surfaces do to the optimization algorithm used in Modo out of the box. Booooo.
