Modeling Popcorn
show user profile  LeonardoDanielll
Any tip on modeling a popcorn? I tried with a tutorial on youtube, but my result seems like a tooth.

Go much lower poly first (like 30 poly's) and get the volume and silhouette correct first.

The rest is down to texturing.

You can certainly start with a sphere. It's a case of whatever works, works.

For me, I normally start with a simple plane.

Here's a video you MUST watch. It's long but worth it:

The answer is fairly obvious to what you did wrong. I could tell you, but I did give you a full cheat sheet already (plus a video).

Clue: you have some 5 sided poly's there. 4 sided are the way to go.

Sorry its not that im being lazy is just that im running out of time and my work its not usually to model this kind of things. In fact I already bought 2 different popcorn models in turbosquid, but they were not what I expected.

Dont you or anybody else want to earn some quick money just modelling 2 different popcorns which I can duplicate and scale? If somebody my mail is

Are you after photo-real (i.e. is it for an advert, or just for a school project)?

You could spend 5 minutes making it "roughly" right, or an hour working on displacement maps and getting the shading right.

P.S. I probably don't have time to do a photo-real one today, in case you ask.

I just need the model, no materials cus they have to be render as if they were gold popcorns. And its more kind of a favor for a friend who I told yes thinking would be easy to find a decent popcorn shape on the internet.

The model you show as an example would be almost what I need. Just a little bit more detail, roughness surface and thats all.
