modeling and animating breast cancer ribbon
show user profile  vladdddd
Hi guys!

I m doing a video for a breast cancer campaign, curently i m kinda brainstorming this.. i was wondering if i can get any ideeas from you.. how would you animate this ribbon?

I m rly bad when it comes to "organic animations", actualy i m bad when it comes to animations... i was thinking about some cloth or something...?

cloth could be difficult to direct, you may want to consider deforming along, or moving along a path (curve)

animate it with cloth in low gravity and pull up the air resistance.
for animating the path you can attach the front vertex row (not all of them, just a few to get a more organic front) to a dummy and animate the dummy's position.

You can add wind spacewarps with turbulence (without windforce) to get more dynamics.

great stuff!

thanks m8s!

although i think Toen`s ideea may be the simplest, killerbee2 makes a good point saying that its better to attach cloth to the dummy.. may seem more organig but also my give me some hadakes.. i ll look in to it and probably be back with issues :D

i ve done it with path constraint and cloth.

1. i added a path constraint to a dummy
2. than linked a small cylinder to the dummy (not sure i needed the dummy)
3. the cylinder is at the top end of the cloth (in cloth parameters set cloth to the plane and collision obj for the cylinder)
4. in the cloth i ve created a vertics group (the top row of vertics which are nearest to the cylinder) which is attached to the cylinder (under cloth hit group, hit make group, hit surface, hit the cylinder)
5. played around with gravity and other stuff

once again mf comes through! :) thanks m8s!

i can give more detailed info id anyone needs :)

cheers!

isn't the ribbon slightly short?

sure it is its just a test :)

i have a 2 mile long path and a slightly smaller ribbon with very low gravity.. in my real animation :)

visited your website grotey, wonderful work!!! rly awsome! big fan :D

i got quite a few atributes to cloth... any ideea where to start making it more weightless and soft? i d like to achieve this effect... u know when gymnasts have a long stick with a ribbon attached to its far end, and when they moove it, the hole length of the ribbon follows almost the same path? am i making any sense here? :D

here s an ex:
