Made this model for Spiral Studios about 4 years ago....

Decided to crack it back open and render the high rez with a shiny 'studio' lit look like they did in Pacific Rim's end title sequence.

Plain black does not do those models justice, it washes out all the detail, I'd prefer to see wires and clay/AO

Wires might work, but the clay/Ao would take forever, so that's a wash. And as said up top, I was recreating the render effect at the end of Pacific Rim which looked just like this.

Awesome looking models!

The glossy black is a very unique look to present models, it does look neat, however it also looks like you are intentionally hiding details or imperfections on your modeling.

So artistically I like the black shinny look! but from a professional standpoint if I was looking at it I would be a bit concerned on the modeling

Yep, they were glory renders, for sure. Doing a shaded/lit wireframe single image of both now (front and back) for those wishing to review the topology. Very slow rendering....about 4 minutes for a single image. Which sucks, because it prohibits redoing the entire rendered video as wireframes.

Cool model and interesting style - but yeah, seems like it's hiding too much detail for me to 'really' like it.

This whole thing (low/highrez/uv) was $300 dollars. Yeah, there's lots I could have done for the model, but it didn't pay enough for such fine tuned modeling, and we both agreed on that. He was happy with it, and it got done to his satisfaction. That's all that matters. The 'black' shiny rendering is just me having fun with the high rez model, giving it a cool render effect as mentioned up top. :)

Hey man, knock yourself out. I'll send you the high rez/ low rez models if you want. There's a normal map and AO baked for the low rez. Or if anyone else wants to tinker with Ddo or Ndo or whatever that quixel suite is called. I have vista and older photoshop and can't run it sadly. I'd really be curious to see what Ddo can do with all this. If anyone's interested, let me know.
