Model in progress - St Francis Xavier's Cathedral in Adelaide
show user profile  jareu
I opened for business late last year, and while most of my work has been industrial stuff, Cad drawing etc, Im really excited about doing some architectural work. As part of a marketing thing to include in the website, once it is finished, I decided to model texture and render a rather beautiful cathedral here in Adelaide, South Australia, and then do some beauty renders.

Here is what I have sofar, about 3 hours in:

Comments and crits welcome as always

thanks. There are loads of fiddly bits, which I'll have to use mudbox for, leafy sculptures and things like that. I'll do them last.

Here is another hour into it:

and a few snaps of the cathedral itself:

Nice, though I think the spires look taller in the ref, esp if you take into account the foreshortened view/angle.

Thanks markoid! Didnt even notice it. I did notice that most of this building is sectioned pretty nicely, as in most parts will be x bricks high and x bricks accross. having counted that the top of that triangle part in the spires lines up exactly with tile 4, i was able to adjust accordingly. will post an update soon

I like where this is going. Keep at it.
Do you plan to do the interior as well?

no, just the exterior. I'd love to but every time i enter a church my eyes turn black and my skin sizzles and steams up. no idea why. I've consulted my doctor but he just gave me anti-depressants. Now i can't hear the word 'Cauliflower' without bursting into tears.

lol.

This is looking pretty cool.

Could you please post some wires at some point so that I can see cow you have gone about modeling certain bits and how high your polygon density is? No pressure I just look at these types of architectural models and wonder what the topology looks like.
