Model out of papercut like dimensions
show user profile  kiko
Hey guys, long time without posting here, I knd of missed you lot.

Anyways, as the title suggest, I'm banging my head on the desk trying to figure out what to do out of this paper cut like drawing a client sent me to model.. something... can't figure out exactly what it is.

How would you guys go about making this?

Cheers,

Hi James!

The tracing part I've done, using circles to triangulate. It's indeed the folding part that is making me bang my head on the desk.

Any suggestions as to how I might do so?

lol... fair point.

send me the model, im bored ill give it a go

edit: i would think of it like a jigsaw puzzle, keep folding til it works :P

edit2: looking at it again im guessing that big triangle on the right is the bottom/base. everything folds up from there. also looks like where u see the arrows intersect they fold together, where they are pointing away from each other they may be corners

Sure,

Here's the link:

Let me know if you have any problems with the files.

Thanks a lot James!

might be quicker if you print the image out, cut it out then manually fold irl
why would a client send you something to model in this way? seems very counter-productive

I should have said this on th first post, the client wants a 3D Model out of it, not a paperfold one.

you were clear on that :)
i just thought if you don't know what it's meant to be it would be quicker to fold it in real life

[edit- the left top point goes into the triangular indent on the right if that's any help

Oh I see your point now!

Yes, I might have to do that in order to figure out what this model is. Thing is I don't have a printer here and every printing service around here is already closed :(

I'll try that tomorrow morning.

Cheers!

Looking good James!

Let me print it tomorrow and fold it to see if it matches yours :)

i keep coming back to a wonkey tower type shape- using paper with no way to take a photo unfortunately
was a wonkey tower with a hole in it until i saw there was a piece not coloured in grey on the image... (bottom middle left)
best i could do would be to overlay the image with labels on the matching edges really- you kinda already have that in the measurements- but i'm willing to do it if you want
not much help but it doesn't look like it makes anything recognisable- more abstract
who are you working for anyways- the riddler?

[edit- forgot to say- i got it to be watertight though
