3D model interactivity software ?
show user profile  captaincalamity
Hello, new to the forum, so this maybe posted in the wrong section of the forums.

I produce 3D animations generally of products for engineering using 3D Studio max/after effects.

I need to be able to build an exploded view of a product that is fully rotatable and the user able to interact with it to highlight different components and features. The quality of the 3D needs to still be as good, if not close enough to a high quality rendered animation/still.

More accustomed to linear animations, but more and more need the requirement to create interactive versions, I've got some knowledge of Adobe flash and JavaScript, but its pretty basic, also have found some on-line places you can upload models and rotate them, share them etc...but the quality and ability to interact seems pretty basic, I was hoping there is a specific application we could buy that would serve the purpose.

"more and more need the requirement to create interactive versions"

...are pretty much mutually exclusive.

You might get somewhere with Unity/Unreal but you wont get to the point of a properly rendered image. Even harder via web...

I think that you need to rethink what you really need.
For engineering products I really doubt you need photo realism, most likely what you need is interactivity for a good explanation of the product.
Unreal Engine is "free" now and will provide you with what you need, but without some knowledge in programming, you wont be able to make a good experience. You will most likely need a team if you want to develop interactive experiences.
Or hire a team to develop a platform on which you can present your models give a set of standards.

But really it all depends of if it is worth the investment. How much will you gain for having an interactive experience over a video?

The only one I know of is SAP Visual Enterprise Author (formally deep exploration), pretty much geared towards engineering explodes and product views/animations etc.
You can export 3D interactive PDF' sitting down when you read the price tag ;)

There's got to be a more user friendly price option...that's just silly.

You must have a different definition of "quality"... Not to mention it's Java based, so going away.

...and yes, DeepExp is/always will be a fucking arm/leg in cost.

the gallery examples from wirefusion you linked have some GREAT examples of exactly what he's asking for your just a hard ass marco..

at least your right about java though, Turns out it's being discontinued tomorrow with no future support whats so ever...

No, I just have standards... Which are apparently well above yours. No need to name call Kampbell.

Side note, Java as a web implemented coding language is getting cut in it's current form from browsers... Maybe you should educate yourself a bit:

Back tracking your post via edits so you don't seem as irrelevant, is bad form.

^ Now that's being a hard ass.

Bravo - Your smarter than I... and a gentleman!

I updated the comment because it was a bit too rude... eh hmm... You "come back" like a school girl... Next your going to call me or my mom fat right?

Not a whole lot can be said for you though.. you don't even know me, nor do you have any clue as to my education or even what I do for a living, or where, or with whom...

Stay on point. your comments are shitty and cocky this is no exception. All you do is show you really are a shit head. I could care less what you think you know about me because its wrong.

To get back on topic:

You're going to need to

a) Learn a free to use "game" engine / development package such as Unreal or Unity.

b) Hire a team of people to build a proprietary engineering/exploded/ custom platform that will do what you want it to do. Ideally something you can just import the model into and say what's what; in terms of "interact-ability".

c) Find a freelance game developer already versed in Unity3D and C#, with time on his hands and willing to negotiate either an hourly rate or per "interactive engineering scene" remuneration policy.

If you choose Door number C.

Send an email to (myself) over at:

c ec il (d0t)tre ad we ll (at sign) g male (doT) com

Obviously, use . instead of (dot) spell male as mail and replace (at sign) with @.

edit: Oh, and no spaces. Too.

I'm still confused as to why your resorting to name calling... I may not know you but I can see a pattern in your behavior.

I was merely stating some facts, sorry you took personal offense.

Side note, yes; hire LionDebt... So he can be a debt-free lion.

@ Campbell, I understand the way you feel, but I've warmed to Bolteon. There's a level of honesty that's refreshing. Like prostitutes. Used to look down on them but after having been flaked on constantly after wasting hours chatting up (and wetting up) chicks only to realise they just were using you to boost their ego and never had any intention of getting naked, you have to appreciate the honesty of prostitutes.

Sketchfab has an annotation feature...not quite animations, but interactive...-ish.
