Model goes blocky when applying 'Mesh Select'
Pretty straightforward problem. I have a model the looks just fine as a 'Editable Mesh'. But once I choose to apply the 'Mesh Select' modifier. It looks terrible and blocky. It renders out this way as well.
Here is a screenshot to show what is happening.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Your smoothing groups are getting wiped. I've never even touched the "Mesh Select" modifier before, what exactly is it that you're trying to do?

I saw a tutorial on using the flex modifier to add realism to flesh. But in order to select the proper vertices to apply the flex to, you have to select them. The tutorial used the Mesh Select first to do this.
Its weird because when I apply 'Mesh Select' to the other body parts, its just fine and does not seem to remove the smoothing groups.
I am not sure why its doing that or how to preserve these groups or even locate them for that matter.

try adding a smooth modifier after the mesh select. Set the angle to something like 90 or 120. Won't 'fix' the problem, but will give you back your smoothing groups.
He who says it cannot be done is interrupting the man doing it.

use poly select instead, same result without the blockiness.

Hey I used poly select, and no problems at all. What a simple fix, I wish it didnt take so much effort to find the solution, thanks for the help :)
