My mini portfolio for games design interview
show user profile  AntiCitizen
Ok Tommorow i've got an interview for a games design course, and even though my main ambition for a degree course is to study film in japan i've got game cinematics as another option so i banged together some 3d quickly.
work in progress

Average renders but hopefully this movie will make a good impression

LOL vkotek.

One thing to fix is the 6 seconds of dead space at the end of the video. you never want dead space. it distracts from the rest of the reel.

I'm not seeing much in the ways of Games or Design.

"I'm not seeing much in the ways of Games or Design."

thats because i'd rather do the cutscenes and the cinematics, i wouldn't even know where to start with coding and scripting

Shouldn't the flames in the dessert come after the crash?

IMO your interviewers will be more impressed if you lie and say you came up with the idea for the "killzone 2 fan movie" all by yourself, i.e. come up with a new name that doesn't involve Killzone 2. It's not like anyone will be able to tell the difference.

I got into mine with my charming personality,

Oh and my previous training in Photoshop, Flash, Director, After Effects, hand drawn animation, knowledge of basic programming concepts, and long list of games I had clocked, memorized cheat codes & other reasons I was the best person for the space in the class roster.

There are so many crap courses out there, I'm glad I did a little research before choosing mine.

Anti Citizen will have no problem getting on a games design course.

Years ago I started an MA in games design and left after about 2 weeks, that's an MA and it didn't even require any previous experience in 3D or modeling, just a degree in a relevant subject.

I wouldn't bother with a 3D course if you want to do film, do the film course and do the 3D work in your spare time, just invest in a few DVD tutorials.

Few games do pre-rendered cutscenes/cinematics. They did some in Mirror's Edge, but all the other story based games in my collection, Bioshock, Turok, and Fallout3 are all done in game.

I'm going to Queensland University of Technology this summer to take parts of my education there. Started here in norway. Never had to show any work.

But then again, this is a Multimediatechnology- and design course. Going to take a master in 3d or animation or something. Not sure yet.
