Mine blasting
show user profile  FordCave
Im kinda new to 3ds max. I really need some help.
I need to model a mine blasting from a ore mine.
The fractures differ from area to area.

I have tried to import the different objects from inventor to 3ds max, but it does not fragment it,
every time it tries it hangs and gives multiple errors.

I have also tried to select the different area's where the fragmentation differs, but it does not give the desired effect.

Basics: A hole in the ground with explosives, the hole is then closed with high density gravel.
The fuse is ignited and the explosives shatter the ground. The forces must be vissible going through the rock.

The important part is to see the different kinds of fragmentation after the explosion as it is positioned in the blasted area.

you won't get any replys until you post the same thing a 3rd time.

there is a fracture plugin out there. might be a better option then trying to import a bunch of individual objects. cant remember what the plugin was, but it does all the fracturing work for you. will take any object and fracture it.

Yeah, use that world famous script Garp made. I believe it's called Fracture Veronni but I'm not sure on the spelling. Check out ScriptSpot.

Also you can use particles with a p-bomb for the rubble (with proxied geometry, of course).

I have downloaded rayfire. It does all the fragmentation work for you, but the problem I am wrestling with is that you can not fracture it section for section as to create a custom point cloud and then fracturing according to the point cloud you created.

I do not know of any other method of fracturing in 3ds max, does anyone know of something else, or maybe an add on?

Rayfire can do what you ask FordCave.

Are you looking to explode the object with a p-bomb? or hitting it with a projectile?
There is a setting in rayfire to shatter out from the point of impact or explosion, so that anything very close to the impact/explosion origin shatters much more and into smaller fragments and parts of the object further away don't break as much.

jump to 1minute 30 seconds of this animation (don't watch the whole its a bit repetitive) but there are some nice rayfire effects in here

So I have been toying around with rayfire. It is pretty awesome. Now I just need to know how do you make a rfs map for the fragment by shapes in rayfire. I just can not get how to do it. If I insert a png or jpeg it just freezes. Rayfire is definitely the way to go in this anim.

Can someone show me how to make a picture that I can insert into rayfire?

Like this guy did with the HL logo....

It looks like it is just spline object? Not sure if you have to export the spline as a specific format though.. I am going to have a go with this tonight.

What have you got so far?

If you still need to fracture:

I have got the fracturing. It looks good, but if I use a space modifier instead of the rayfire explode function it dismantles the faces instead of the complete object( the fracture ). I don't know if I am just not doing it right. The problem is I need to show the fracturing start almost in the centre and then move out and upwards, indicating where the forces go and how it happens.
