MF tourney? yeah? no?
show user profile  jareu
I'm working from home what feels like 24 freakin 7 with nothing but dragonball to keep me distracted. Don't get me wrong, I love that show, but then I thought, hey, its been ages since the last tourney.

I saw a thread a while ago about having the next one so did I miss it? no dice? dice? I would very much like to get my hands dirty with some 3D again.

What tools you into? Max or zbrush?
What type? Hard surface or organic?
What scale of project? Large or small?

i.e. fill in the terms of trade and I'll be in. And I'm gonna win too. I'll kick everyone's ass. And I'll laugh.

P.S. What about team deathmatch? And once we find the ultimate team they'll face off against each other, Double Dragon style.

Actually, I have a suggested theme: Man and Machine.

I'll bags Sangre as my teammate.

I have no idea, I just remember seeing something about it a while ago. tbh we had one a while ago which was something around turning old 2D games into 3D, I really enjoyed that concept.

what about backgrounds from point an click adventure games? monkey island, day of the tentacle, sam and Max hit the road, Indiana jones and the fate of atlantis, Simon the sorcerer, universe, beneath a steel sky, Dune, Kings quest, Pepper's Adventure through time, gosh there are so many more I played.

These games have phenomenal scene art, it would be nice to see the creativity in design taken from this technologically limited era and transformed into the modern day HD.

All tools are fine by me so long as nothing is auto generated, that is it must be sculpted or modelled, not downloaded or generated with poser or speedtree. of course, using premade or sources textures is fine with me. Animations are ok, but will be judged by style same as stills, no advantage.

What say?

edit: open to suggestions too, the more suggestions the better, and Herfst, no doubt you'll win, you're a freak when it comes to making sweet looking stuff quickly

That's a great idea.

I reckon Day of the Tentacle is a winner.

Splatterhouse, Moon Patrol, Elevator Action or......... Golden Axe!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be up for taking part.

I'm on a Dongle at the minute - just having moved house to Brighton... and those useless monkeys at BT Internet can only send a monkey chief engineer around on the 25th of September... So, once I'm properly wired up I'll have to catch up on work, deadlines and whatnot... But - as soon as I'm free I'll be good to go tourney-style.

Also, shotgun turning Golden Axe into a top-down isometric 2.5D hack'n'slash RPG...

The old tournaments were great fun. Sadly (or not depending on the way you look at it!) I am too busy to join in though. Hope that one goes ahead as i like to watch them though! :)

herfst: thats cool, my girlfriend of 16 months, is from Port Elizabeth, eastern cape.

Westcoast, more the merrier but watching is fun too.

I would like to contribute but if I organize and judge the thing obviously my own work wont count as an entry. I'd like to come up with a prize too, though I'm a poor man right now so it will have to be relatively small, yet useful or important for the individual winning it. wacom bamboo or something. If anyone wants to chip in, that would be great, and open to suggestions for prizes.

what is the usual format for these things?

I've never done a MF tournament. Didn't think a prize was necessary - except the respect of your peers. So if I happen to win there is a prize and, don't worry about it.

Actually, just thought of an awesome prize, design a sig that says, "I'm the MF winner, bitches!" and whoever wins can keep that as their sig for a full year (or until the next tournament).
