I'm trying to meshsmooth a boat but theres a few polyogns that i don't want meshsmoothed now rather than selecting every other polygon, and then unchecking the aplly to whole mesh, is there an easier way to do it?
i also have a problem that when i render the boat part of the mesh is missing but in the viewport it looks fine

rather than trying to hack it so it looks ok, you should figure out what is happening and model it correctly so it doesn't happen in the first place. Just applying the meshsmooth to part of the model is not the right way to do things, its a quick get-out. It's look to me like you might have unwelded verts in that corner and the meshsmooth mod is pulling the corner in. make sure the verts are welded.

[edit] after typing that, you do realise you dont even have a meshsmooth modifier applied right?

I know i haven't got the meshsmooth applied in this shot, and even when i do apply it it fixes it a liitle bit but it still looks slightly damaged

Idont know if it works on a sub-level, but while selecting objects, you could holdt down ctrl+I to invert the selection.

But you should post a rendered image with meshsmooth too, so we can see what you mean.
