Mesh Fusion (MODO plugin) is out :)

Still doing my pimping...

Have a look at those videos. Everybody on the MODO forum seems to view it as a game changer. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Looks amazing, I'm definitely going to check it out. Noticed they don't seem to show the wire frame, but the results look good. Thanks for posting!

The wireframe is pretty much the same you get from NURBS, like exporting from Rhino.
For now, there are no dedicated UV tools, so good luck unwrapping the thing. They've said that they're working on it and it'll be for the next version (possibly for MODO 801 in 2 or 3 months).

Looks great..just like how booleans should be. I hope Max can get something like this shortly.

The plugin wasn't developped by The Foundry but by Braid Art Labs. It's not very clear but from the talks on the MODO forum, it looks like it won't be ported to any other program.
But now that the 'proof of concept', so to speak, is out there, I suspect it won't be too long before others start implementing something similar for other packages.

edit: Darn, Mesh Fusion has only been out for a few hours and the gallery and wip sections over there are already filling up with projects done with it!

I'm glad max doesn't have this, I seriously wouldn't know where to start, or how to start, a project knowing I can just mash some shapes together and, bam, it's done. It's that whole Spiderman thing about too much power and blah, blah, blah. Imagine making a space gun by chucking cool shapes together and moving them around. I think I'd get too stuck in the design stage knowing there are infinite possibilities.

Agreed. Doing things faster is a real bother. It's either more money or more free time. Tough choice!

Good bit of sarcasm there.

But I'm serious, the designing would be harder to finalise (for me) as I'll constantly be thinking, "Ooh, what about this? No, what about that?" like Jimmy Savile in a playground.

Everything else besides designing, though, yeah I want.

Herfst1 - I understand what you're saying. Though I think once you got used to this type of workflow you'd love it.

For me once Vray is available for Modo or if Max goes subscription I'll be ordering Modo. The Vray thing for me has more to do with keeping a certain look for a client I've been doing work with for years.

@Garp - Just an FYI. It should be "Have a look at these videos."

Regards pimping other software.. I def think we should start either one or several threads devoted to different software that people are interested in. For example a Modo thread, a C4D thread, etc..

Over the past two or three years i`ve been amazed at some of the leaps and bounds that Cinema4D has been making in terms of it`s capabilities and Maxons commitment to pushing it further. Version 15 just looks phenomenal.

Would be good to have a platform to basically share pros/cons and post cool videos etc of these other 3d apps so that people can get a good overview of what`s going on over the fence..

Comparing the development and progress between Max and other apps, it`s mind blowing how stagnated it`s become. Imo stop paying for it, start shopping around and get value for money elsewhere. Imo ofc.

A couple of months ago, I installed gmax on a friend's computer and spent a few days teaching the basics to his kid (future lead animator at Pixar, no doubt).
I was amazed to realize how vastly superior to MODO it is in many areas. And waaayyyyy more robust. Considering that it's 12 or 13 years old, it makes me wonder how much of MODO is really good and how much is pure hype.

I think you just talked me out of Modo!
