When they say plugin I guess that means it's not free and not a new Modo feature?

This looks great. I used Groboto and It was seriously limited by the type of shapes you could use as the adding/subtracting objects. This seems better but it's difficult to tell from the video how much better. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Some MODO plugins are dirt cheap, others are quite expensive. I'm guessing it'll be in the $300-$500 range but frankly I've no idea.
Considering the amount of time it can potentially shave off in areas like product design, lots of people are excited about it. It should change a few workflows.
Still, since it's a first version, I'll wait a month or two after it's out, see what kind of user feedback it gets. It always looks great in the promo videos.

Aye. I'd like to see some real world example meshes next time and see the final topology as well.

That's what I was waiting for during the videos, for the guy to freeze the mesh (like collapsing mods in max), to see how it looks.
My undesrstanding is that the bridging strip is make of lots of small quads and tris and pretty messy, the goal being to have nicely interpolating normals across it.
Kind of like sculptris: the grain of the tesselation is determined by the curvature and some smoothness parameter.

edit: another great use for it would be to bake normals, for game assets and the like.

I'm confused. So this is Nurbs now? Surly it can't be polygon based or the mesh would be all sorts of messed up.

What happens if you need to export it to another program? Wouldn't you have to collapse the "stack" (or whatever is in modo) which would create a super high poly object?

Really neat! I like it!

Oh James... on the surface it looks like a simple boolean operation, but did you watch the video?

It's interactive and procedural. Don't underestimate usability. Would you actually recommend anyone use boolean in max? I wouldn't. This on the other hand...

Everything I see makes me want to switch to Modo. The concepts don't have to be new, they just have to be done well.

Regarding topology, don't stress about it, zbrush has you sorted. There's this new feature "Zremesher" that kicks ass. It's almost psychic, drawing lines exactly where you would have put them if you'd made the base mesh yourself.

lol yeh i had a good look, you used booleans lately? I cant seem to break the operation anymore lols. I even carved out the most extreme shape from a tesselated object... perfectly first time no xform pretty much following the video above exactly.

I love my proceduralism, which is why I used houdini these days for my own work. I think max has come along way with massfx and pflows box+ now incorporated. Dont get me wrong, theres plenty of great new apps on the horizen - which actually use more then 1 core when performing custom scripts (OMG MAX GET WITH THE TIMES!).

But overall Im wayyy happier with 2014 then the previous versions, its the little things. Modo looks like a great product design software - but its not fully featured yet. Im enjoying my demo but its still early days.

I often feel like screaming at the Max to get with the times. Then I think that maybe it's me that needs to get up to speed. Autodesk has made it pretty clear that they don't want to push Max out of its existing shell.

But then most of the time it does what I need, so I'm hesitant to jump. And jump where, exactly? Options!

Seeing plugins (read: other software) that doesn't necessarily show new techniques but executes them in a more interesting, usable and elegant way makes me both happy and sad at the same time. I want these features.

Supposedly, it meshes well enough so that it can be sent to print.

@Lisa: There was talk in july about adding the Houdini engine to MODO. That would make available a gazillion of plugins.
Nothing was said about the licensing, though. It could be included in MODO's or there could be some extra to pay to Houdini.
