merging problem

I was asking about a week ago about merging scenes together to duplicate bipeds......
I'm trying to do that now, but every time I try to move the rest of the scene around the newly imported biped (because moving the biped makes everything go weird), everything rotates at a different rate, (I also had this problem with bones, where if I rotated character the bones would come flying out of him),
is there any way I can centre the rotational point of ALL these things at once so that they move as expected.

There is a button which toggles your selection to work about individual pivots and the selection centre.

I think this might be what you're after?

It sounds like that would solve it, but I cant find that button anywhere, I've messed around with editing the pivot point under the hierarchy tab, but im purely guessing.
Ill keep trying
