Hi
I was told to dump an earlier project because I have no reference and start a new one that I have quite a bit of reference
I have posted the reference somewhere else but I will do it again just for organization purposes
Reference

And here is ten minutes of work on this reference

It still looks very weak but this is just the inner workings
I have yet to add the armor, weapons, tanks, and the feet.
Crits welcome

Thanks
Peter

Update
I made the armor and I worked on the gun a little
I am still working on the legs, I have tried beveling and subsurfing them but they don't come out right
If you have any ideas on what to do please tell me,
I think the joints look a little to weak and simple.

again please crit
thanks peter

chamfer edges ...

its coming on ok though.

Think about where pipes/links connect to the main body, there would be some sort of linkage usually, or a collar. Look up some images of machinery. JCB/diggers etc that can help

you could have checked out some more modern robot designs before sketching that thing. The whole purpose of concepting something is to explore the idea until it looks good on paper so you don't waste time trying to fix a poor design later on in 3d.
References help you with proportions but these references should first be based on a working concept so you still skipped a step I'm afraid :)

Well
We reset our computer today or something like that
It was going really slow so we bought an external hard drive and backed everything up
I didn't know we were doing it today so I forgot to back up my blender files so I lost almost everything
I had a few things backed up but not much
I lost my robot and the references.
I don't think I will continue this but if enough of you guys think the robot is a good idea I will but right now Im not convinced

Thanks for all your help
I think if I don't do this I will start with something more simple and work my way up

Thanks Again
Peter

in regards to what seth said i would start drawing again and start over with what you have learned sofar, maybe even drawing up a better design..
it seemed a good exercise , from my experience its good to start over from scratch :)
